It's September!
Did you know that September is "Save Your Photos Month"? When a natural disaster, digital malfunctions or human error occurs, treasured memories are lost forever. Save Your Photos Month reminds us to back up our digital pictures, scan and save the vintage ones.
So, we thought that we would reach out to our experts at the Utah Division of Archives and Records Service, and they gave us the following advice:
- Remember that all carbon-based materials will decompose over time - your job is to make sure you stave off that decomposition as long as possible.
- Store photos in a box to keep them away from pests. A cardboard box or plastic box with a lid is fine.
- Store them in a place that isn't going to be subject to huge fluctuations in temperature. They should never be in a place that gets too hot, or too cold. Garden shed = bad; under your bed = good. 😉
- Keep photographs away from light. Light will bleach out the photograph and age it more quickly.
- Do not use a marker or pen on the photograph. Identify people on the back using a pencil only.
- Photographs that have been printed using a home printer (or portable photo printer) will deteriorate much more quickly than those developed professionally.
-
Photos in self-adhesive photo albums should stay put. If you do need to remove them, watch this video about how to gently remove the photographs using unwaxed dental floss: https://www.youtube.

Probably the best advice I can give regarding digital photographs is to keep them backed up, keep them organized, and describe them on a spreadsheet (who/what/when/where/why).
- Store photos in an area that isn't at risk of flooding. There's nothing worse than finding your box of photos is sopping wet after a basement flood!

Restaurant Review - We Tried It So You Don’t Have To!
Here is a list of restaurants that GovOps employees have tried and reviewed. Let us know your favorite eats:2222 West 3500 South, West Valley City
Review: Great Thai food and reasonably priced. I have never had to wait for a table, and the service is always quick. The Thai ice tea is always a must for me. I have enjoyed several dishes here, but my go to is the Pad See Eew (however the Pad Thai is a close second!) And for those who have the adventurous side, they offer spice levels to suit your desires.
2644 West 4700 South, Taylorsville
Review: The Tom Kha Gai is a delectable coconut soup that became a hit with the whole group that went to the restaurant. We would also order the Massaman Curry and the Pad Thai again as well.
4146 Carriage Square, Taylorsville, UT 84129
Review: Delish Pho and egg rolls! And a great price for the portion served. Food was hot and the service was great. As an added bonus, you can grab a boba as the way out as the perfect way to cap your meal. They have a full menu of traditional Vietnamese cuisine if Pho is not your jam.
3312 South Decker Lake Dr. West Valley City, UT 84119
Review: They have several lunch specials and the service was fast and our food came out quickly. There is nothing that really makes this place stand out, but it is not bad either. If you are in the mood for Mexican food, this is a great choice.
1732 W 5400 S, Taylorsville, UT 84118
Review: The chips and salsa were good, but it is a thinner salsa rather than a traditional chunky salsa. The chicken chimichanga was mostly beans and cheese, not too much chicken. The carne asada tacos were good, but you'll have to remember to ask for cheese if you like cheese on your tacos.
Greek Souvlaki
Review: This is one of my go-to spots. Great food and portions for the price! The food is delicious and always consistent. I tend to go for the Gyro when I go, but I also enjoy the Chicken and Pork Souvlaki. I love the lemon rice and often end up making my order a plate so I can have the rice and the salad. If you are super hungry or have a sweet tooth, you should add an order of the Loukoumades (like a donut hole soaked in honey and then with cinnamon and sugar).
Tita's Restaurant
2716 W. 5400 S., Taylorsville, UT 84129
Review: The tostadas de pollo were AMAZING! The aqua fresca cucumber lime pina was so refreshing as well. Cute eating environment, fast, and not crowded. We will definitely be going back.
Cupbop
Review: They started as a food truck and have added these brick-and-mortar stores, so the menu still feels like a food truck experience (not that that is bad). The KKO KKO Bop (BBQ Chicken) is my normal choice, and all of the choices come with rice, noodles, and cabbage in a bowl. I also really enjoy the Mandoo Bop (their pot stickers).
